Autonomous Systems Behaviour

چکیده

Autonomous machines have fascinated people for millennia. The Ancient Greeks told of Talos, the Man of Bronze, whose supposedly mythical existence has been given unexpected credence by the recent discovery of the Antikythera Mechanism. Could the Greeks really have created a giant mechanical man to protect Europa in Crete against pirates and invaders? Long before that, the Ancient Egyptians created the Great Pyramid of Khufu as an autonomous psychic machine to project the soul (ka) of the King to the heavens where he was charged with negotiating good Inundations with the heavenly gods.

PERIODIC SOLUTIONS OF CERTAIN THREE DIMENSIONAL AUTONOMOUS SYSTEMS

There has been extensive work on the existence of periodic solutions for nonlinear second order autonomous differantial equations, but little work regarding the third order problems. The popular Poincare-Bendixon theorem applies well to the former but not the latter (see [2] and [3]). We give a necessary condition for the existence of periodic solutions for the third order autonomous system...

Rotation number and its properties for iterated function and non-autonomous systems

The main purpose of this paper is to introduce the rotation number for non-autonomous and iterated function systems. First, we define iterated function systems and the lift of these types of systems on the unit circle. In the following, we define the rotation number and investigate the conditions of existence and uniqueness of this number for our systems. Then, the notions rotational entropy an...

Autonomous Systems with Emergent Behaviour

This chapter presents the notion of autonomous engineered systems working without central control, through self-organisation and emergent behaviour. It argues that future large scale applications from domains as diverse as networking systems, manufacturing control, or e-government services will benefit from being based on such systems. The goal of this chapter is to highlight engineering issues...

Behaviour-based Autonomous Systems: towards an Analysis Framework Behaviour-based Autonomous Systems: towards an Analysis Framework

In this paper we address the crucial problem of the behaviour-based control, namely: given a set of behaviours connected in some way, what will be the result of their concurrent and independent execu-tion? We present a very simple example showing that analysis of this problem is not at all simple, depending on a large number of variables. Moreover we suggest that usage of diierent design and im...

Programmable springs: Developing actuators with programmable compliance for autonomous robots

Developing real robots that can exploit dynamic interactions with the environment requires the use of actuators whose behaviour can vary from high stiffness to complete compliance or zero impedance. We will outline our design for an electric actuator, called a programmable spring, which can be easily configured using a high level programming interface to emulate complex multimodal spring dampin...
